Certificate allows direct supply for automotive industries (motorcars and trucks assembly lines)
Romi Castings & Machined Parts Division is now ISO/TS 16949:2002 certified. This enables the supplying of pieces straightly for the assembly companies of motorcars and trucks. This is the international quality standard for automotive industries and without this certificate it is not possible to supply any kind of component for automotive companies.
Romi worked more than one year to improve its procedures as well as its suppliers procedures in order to get the certification. In this process, all of its components and services suppliers had also to adapt its procedures for product approval and obtain ISO 9001:2000 Certificates.
“In short term we are going to improve our performance and increase the satisfaction of the current customers”, says the Romi Castings & Machined Parts Director, Paulo Romi. “In middle and long terms new business will be consolidated allowing the direct supply to assembly companies of motorcars and trucks.”
Romi already had a quality management system certificated in accordance to ISO 9001:2000. This facilitated the implementation of ISO/TS 16949:2002 requirements. Paulo Romi tells that employees of all levels were strongly trained, including internal auditors and improvements were also made on procedures like statistical process control, measurement system analysis and production part approval process, among others.
Foundry capacity is approximately 40 thousand tons of cast iron pieces which will be increased with more 10 thousand tons in 2009, due to investments in the enlargement of its manufacturing facilities.
