The transaction, part of Romi’s internationalization strategy, will allow its expansion within the segment of plastic processing machines

Indústrias Romi S.A., Brazilian machine tool and plastic processing machines market leader, has concluded the acquisition of assests of Sandretto Industrie S.r.l. in A.S. (under special administration), a traditional Italian manufacturer of plastic injection molding machines. The preliminary acquisition agreement was announced by the Brazilian company on May 15.  The Sandretto business concern is comprised by two manufacturing units in the cities of Grugliasco and Pont Canavese, in the region of Turim, by four commercial subsidiaries in Europe and several service centers, sales offices and commercial representations in several countries.

“The operation is a part of Romi’s internationalization strategy and will enable the company to expand its business in the plastic processing machinery sector, both in Brazil and in international markets”, says Romi’s president, Livaldo Aguiar dos Santos.  According to Santos, the company intends to expand its production and market base, gain scale and optimize costs, driving its growth in the markets already serviced.

Among acquisition of assets, operational inventory and new capital investments planned for the next two years, the company will invest € 13.5 million.  The deal was closed by Romi Italia S.r.l., an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Romi.

Romi has three strategic objectives for this acquisition: expand the distribution base for its products, taking advantage of the broad Sandretto commercial network; develop a technological center in a region which has recognized know-how in the machinery sector; and expand its global supplier development policy.

Founded in 1946, Sandretto has sold in excess of 30,000 machines worldwide. Its product line is composed of plastic injection molding machines with capacities ranging from 75 to 5,500 tons of clamping force – a parameter which establishes the size capability for the production of plastic parts.
